  • Bio

Rock band by day and beer fueled superheroes by night (or sometimes the other way around), Moochie Mac & Superfriends formed in the summer of 2008 after being inspired by a trip to Japan. As fate would have it our heroes, K-9 & Hayashi wrote their first song together—titled Baan Thai—after getting smashed at Thai Beach Bar on Kamakura Beach. On the plane trip back to their native Singapore, the duo decided to write an album about all of the adventures they had in Tokyo. It would take two years of laying down tracks and the band released the EP Ageha in early 2008 to a little critical acclaim but their mission was hardly complete. In December of the same year MMSF finally released their magnum opus, Somerset Roppongi (named after the area of Tokyo they stayed in during that fateful trip). Produced by Joel Chia, SR is a collection of fun songs that detail their trip to Japan. Some mixed with serious messages but most just for shits and giggles. Fans have gravitated towards a few favorites including the title track "Somerset Roppongi", the heartfelt ode to lost family "Sayonara" and "Fish, Eggs and Sushi," a song inspired by the supposedly best but surprisingly worst sushi the band ever had in the Tsukiji fish market. "I wanted it to have a tie in with some other factor," says Hayashi. "I thought of how Hollywood and the news is perceived to be true by a lot of people when they could actually be making crap up. So the song became about that as well. Our socially and party conscious heroes are making their mark on the music scene from Singapore to Japan with several sold out shows. The band will be releasing a special editon Japanese album in August 2011 whereby proceeds will go towards helping out the Japanese Earthquake Victims. There are still several unanswered questions for our heroes. Will Somerset Roppongi achieve cult status? Will the band eventually sell out the Tokyo Dome? The only way to find out is to stay tuned to Moochie Mac & Superfriends. As we all know, a hero's work is never done.
