  • Bio

Hello, My name is Olly Hite I Write, Play piano and sing alongside my friend Shelley Payne. She plays Cello and writes all the string parts for my songs. She is very cool and knows how to wrap a song in beauty. The songs you can hear on my profile are taken from the the album 'in everyone' They were recorded by Bob Birthwright at Stanbridge Farm studios. A good man and a special place captured this striped back true sounding record. One that I am very proud of. Working with Sam Bell. Shelley Payne and I have begun work with the up and coming producer Sam Bell. He has currently worked with artists such as, Block Party, Editors, REM, Snow patrol to name a few. We are made up and very excited about working with Sam. You can expect to hear some new material very soon. Live dates will then follow. www.ollyhite.co.uk You will find News, Free music downloads, Live dates, Picturedrome, and more at my official website, So check it out! The BPA's album "I Think We're Gonna Need a Bigger Boat" is now available. Find out where to buy it in your country www.thebrightonportauthority.com I am currently doing some exciting work with the BPA... Olly explains A Brief History of the BPA The Brighton Port Authority were an outfit who built a huge word-of-mouth reputation on England's south coast from the early 1970s onwards before petering out in the mid-'90s. From what can be easily pieced together, they were a loose-limbed jamming unit, originally known as the Brighton Phonographic Association. At its core were local musicians Norman Cook (FATBOY SLIM) and Simon Thornton who gathered various singers and session men around them, built the rather ramshackle BPA studio, and would occasionally hold multi-day warehouse parties from which their semi-legendary reputation stems. My time with the BPA I used to work with the family run local auction house, The sale room sold Antiques, fine art and liquidated shop stock and general odds and sods along with classic vinyl and musical instruments and collectables. The Brighton Phonographic Associates were major clients of ours. I would deal with the BPA on a one to one level and would always take phone bids and organize all deliveries. If they had there eye on something money didn't ever seem to be an issue. if they wanted it, they would have it. Classic 60's guitars and synthesizers old valve amps, vintage wine/spirits and vinyl. Being a musician I was alway curious on what went on in that warehouse. Welsh Alan drove the van when we did the deliverys. The sounds we would hear when delivering the goods were far out! verging on insane. They were very keen to keep the whole thing lowkey. So we always had the same delivery day and time each month. The shutter of the warehouse was always left open. We never met a soul. Until the last delivery I ever did which was a collection of Classic Nick Lowe albums, A Sixties wurlitzer and a bottle of vintage Port. When arriving at the Warehouse the place was all locked up. We could hear the sound of laughter, proper belly ache laughter, But the shutter was well and truly locked. I could see a ray of light from a side door to the unit. So I checked it out and made my way in. It's all a bit of haze from then on. But I had a blast. I know that much. I think they found my inner prince. We were told to never speak about our time at the warehouse. I guess at last we can now let the music speak for itself. The BPA Tapes have been found! Watch the video. Olly said 'We didn't follow a trend or style. We weren't interested in following suit we just wanted to strip the music back and create a true honest sound. I think we succeeded in doing that.
