Kyle Crabtree à la batterie et Todd Cook à la basse (paire rythmique de Shipping News, aussi aux cotés de Rachel Grimes dans King's Daughters & Sons - Todd Cook fut de la reformation de Slint en 2005). Crashing out of the gates with the aptly titled "Noise Parade" Wright immediately reintroduces listeners to her trademark cutting guitars with a distinctive bittersweet fury that jumps from the speakers. In Film Sound bursts with urgent immediacy, a kind of direct intention-into-thought that's as raw as it is focused. Itʼs an album where your favorite track can change with each listen, be it the easy sway of "The Caustic Light" that thrusts into a chaotic attack of atonal guitar and rhythm, or the gorgeous piano dirge of "Bleed" overflowing with chest pounding wonder and loss. "In Film Sound" features an esteemed rhythm section consisting of Shipping News members Kyle Crabtree (drums) and Todd Cook (bass) and was recorded this fall in Louisville, KY by Kevin Ratterman (My Morning Jacket, Andrew Bird, Maserati) and mastered by Bob Weston at Chicago Mastering Services. It is Wright's first new LP for Brooklyn's Ernest Jenning Record Co. after a decade of work with esteemed Chicago imprint Touch and Go Records and a self-released 2010 LP. Wright has been out of the spotlight in America since her long time label shuttered, but in that time she has been active overseas where an adoring European audience has supported her from the start, and collaborations with cult composer Yann Tiersen have only increased her international profile. France's Vicious Circle will also be releasing the album in Europe. Wright's songwriting has always been unflinchingly honest while untainted by the whims of current trends and her legendary guitar playing continues to shine through, often heavier than ever. The Intensity of her voice refuses to let up these days either, and her sense of harmonic movement and rhythmic patterns often hints at something unsettling going on, a dangerous and explosive feeling that shrouds and ultimately defines In Film Sound.

.. In 1999 Shannon Wright thoroughgoing and an enthusiast artist, like few are, was born after disbanding from her first band Crowsdell. She then shaped her own insular world with her "do-it-yourself punk aesthetic" revealing a lone penchant for songwriting. Flight Safety (1999), Map of Tacits (2000), Dyed in the Wool (2002) and Over the Sun (2004) each explore different layers of uncompromising songs. From dark violent sounds to soft intimate pop melodies, these are challenging and unconventional surroundings, supported with a spare production, twice signed Steve Albini.


She (re)discovered the friendliness around artistic exchange in France, thanks to another exceptional musician: Yann Tiersen (Composed soundtrack to Amelie). Despite their shyness those two got to know each other in order to record an album which managed to abolish the boundaries between their two worlds. When Shannon touched the piano – she had no reason to feel timid with Yann Tiersen – it flourished and suggested still unexplored abilities.

Shannon Wright's earnest singularity and adept capacity for writing beautiful songs comes into palpable sight on Honeybee Girls. With her long-standing friend Andy Baker (bass player and sound engineer) and with Brant Rackley (drummer in Japancakes) Shannon Wright stirs again her richness in composition and a voice that's reached a radiant ampleness. The lavish sounds and distant pianos on "Honeybee Girls" and "Father" are unlike and incomparable to her previous recordings. Wright's unique percussive guitar playing affirms its individualism on "Tall Countryside" and "Embers in your eyes". The piano, the organ, the guitar and the voice are wreathed with a unique spirit accompanied with vague sounds providing an impression of space completely new in her discography.

Honeybee Girls is undoubtedly a red-letter in Shannon Wright's career. She conveys a distinct forte for immediate melodies with unparalled generosity and sensibility through new means.
