Kanye cancels G.O.O.D. Friday due to song leak
by Emily Zemler Sep 30, 2010 at 11:15 AM
You know what they say—you mess with the bull, you get the horns. Well, Kanye West is so upset that a hacker leaked a track off his upcoming album yesterday that he has canceled his weekly G.O.O.D. Friday release this week. Thanks, hacker. You’ve ruined the fun for all of us.
West’s highly anticipated collaboration with Bon Iver, “Lost In The World,” emerged on the Internet yesterday, but it wasn’t actually a sanctioned release. Last night West posted a series of tweets, saying, “Due to blogs leaking unfinished songs from my actual album I’ve decided to pass of Good Fridays this week. It’s messed up that one hacker can mess everything up for everyone… I love to take a year to finish my songs and deliver them to you guys in there most completed form…” He continued, “It would have seemed like since I give free music every week even the lowest form of human being would respect that enough not to leak unfinished songs from my real album…”

Say Anything bassist leaves band
by Jonah Bayer Sep 30, 2010 at 10:10 AM
On the eve of their tour with Motion City Soundtrack and Saves The Day, Say Anything bassist Alexander T Kent has decided to leave the band—and Person L/The Starting Line bassist Kenny Vasoli will be taking over bass (and presumably bong) duties for the group on their current tour.
Kent wrote on the band’s site, “It really has been a wild ride. I remember so well the fairly warm December night 6 years ago at Chain Reaction when Max asked me to play in Say Anything. I’ve learned and grown so much while being in this band and these words will not come close enough to expressing the gratitude to everyone in the band, everyone who worked for and helped the band, and all of the amazing fans who took time to come see and talk to us. Thank you.

The Oral History of Matador Records, Part Two
by Amar Syal Sep 29, 2010 at 10:49 PM
Click here to read part one. Click here to read part three.
With the release of Pavement’s Slanted And Enchanted and Liz Phair’s Exile In Guyville, Matador had established themselves as one of the most talked about indie labels in the world. (Phair even ended up on the cover of Rolling Stone, as seen above.) But, by the mid-’90s, Cosloy and Lombardi found themselves wondering what to do with such attention.
While many scene tastemakers rolled their eyes and moved onto the next “it” label, Matador attempted to enter the mainstream for real. They signed deals with major labels like Atlantic—and, later, Capitol—while expanding their roster to include everything from underground hip-hop to Japanese art-pop to pioneering post-punk.
And the result was, well, one of the most confusing periods in Matador’s history.
