We’re slightly loathe to admit it, but we’re dying to see The Lucky One. Sure, it helps that Zac Efron’s in the film, but the trailer just makes us melt every time we see it (not that we’ve watched it a million times or anything…). The trailer also makes us think that Taylor Schilling, who plays the romantic lead opposite Zac, is the real “lucky one.” Who is she and where did she come from? There must be something special about her if she was plucked out of relative obscurity for this role, which is why we’re deeming her this week’s “one to watch.”

Taylor was born in 1984 and grew up in Boston. She eventually attended Fordham University, where she received a BA in acting. After undergrad, she went on to attend the masters program at NYU, but dropped out in her second year to pursue acting professionally.

In 2009, Schilling read for the lead in the show Mercy via videotape, and the producers were so impressed that they flew her out to LA to audition in person. She eventually won the role.

Two years later, she was cast as the iconic role of Dagny Taggart in the film Atlas Shrugged.

Which leads us to today, and the impending release of The Lucky One. We could have easily seen a role like this going to someone “more famous” than Taylor, which makes us want to see her performance even more. There must be something about her…do you see it?

As for what’s on Taylor’s horizon after The Lucky One, she’ll be holding her own against the likes of Jennifer Lawrence, Bradley Cooper, and Robert Di Niro in the film The Silver Linings Playbook. Not bad for her third film, eh?
