After dominating for weeks, ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ has finally passed the box office torch to the next action franchise lying in wait. ‘The Bourne Legacy,’ the sequel slash reboot of the popular Matt Damon Jason Bourne franchise stepped up and won the weekend with $40.3 million. While this isn’t as high a take home as previous two Bourne flicks – ‘Supremecy’ made $52.5 million its opening weekend and ‘Ultimatum’ blew it out of the water with $69.3 million – it’s still a success for the franchise’s new leading man Jeremy Renner. Renner has had a pretty great 2012 as he starred in two previous huge hits in ‘Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol’ – or as I like to call it, “the greatest action movie ever made” – and ‘The Avengers’ – or as I like to call it “the greatst super hero movie ever made.” That ‘Bourne’ is the only one he’s actually leading is moot, dude’s having a good year. -
