Earlier this year, James Cameron said that he would be focusing on the Avatar franchise, to the exclusion of other films. More recently, he said he could possibly shoot Avatar 2, 3, and 4 all at the same time. Now, it appears 2 and 3 are definitely in the works, but 4 is on the back burner for the time being. But hey, at least we know that 4 will be a prequel. But he’s not copying Star Wars, so don’t even think that way.

James Cameron’s Avatar is the biggest movie of all time, and since the filmmaker spent years developing the technology to be able to render the gorgeous world of Pandora in real-time as he looks through the camera lens, it makes sense that he’d want to return to make some sequels as soon as possible. Avatar star Sigourney Weaver spoke with Showbiz411 recently, and revealed that Cameron plans to shoot three sequels to his massive blockbuster, and he’ll do it in a way that’s similar to how the most famous recent trilogy, The Lord of the Rings, accomplished their massive mission: by filming the movies back-to-back-to-back.
