  • Bamboozle: Day One Highlights

The first day of Bamboozle has been a work in progress for the past few years and 2011 was no different. In the past, the day has been dedicated to cover sets during the Hoodwink Festival, however this year Friday was a full-fledged show with plenty of headliners, old favorites and a few surprises tossed in as well.
    .
Rapper Sam Adams got the party started with a flurry of hip-hop anthems while Forever The Sickest Kids powered through jams off their recently self-titled LP. The real star of Bamboozle’s early hours however, was legendary soul outfit Boyz II Men who serenaded the audience with middle-school classics such as “End Of The Road,” “Motown Philly” and “On Bended Knee.”
    .
In fact, even the group themselves seemed surprised at the response, remarking at one point, “We didn’t know what to expect being here tonight and thank you for giving us such a warm reception,” They then proceeded to hand out roses out to some of the lucky ladies in attendance. (Today’s emo bands take note, this is the way that you impress a crowd.) Admittedly, it wasn’t as romantic when one of the members introduced “End Of The Road” by stating, “I’m pretty sure you made a porno to this.”

  • New Found Glory start work on new album

New Found Glory, who will be playing The Bamboozle this weekend, have begun work on a new album. Over the weekend the band announced they are working on their new disc, which will be a follow up to 2009’s Not Without A Fight. It will be produced by their longtime-production partner Neil Avron.
    .
Guitarist Chad Gilbert wrote on his blog over the weekend, “It’s an exciting day for the world of NFG. Not only because it’s Easter Sunday and we can get away with eating as much chocolate as we want but because we started recording our new album! If you follow me on twitter then you’ve read a bunch of tweets from me about new album stuff, demos, and writing over the course of the last 6 months. Well the time has finally come and we have never been this prepared!”
    .
Gilbert also discussed how the band have been working with Avron over the past few months in preparation for recording. “Neal had us writing and sending him song ideas all the way back to when we were on the Paramore Honda Civic tour,” Gilbert said. “Going back and forth with him and having him critique our ideas for this long has really worked wonders. It forced us to write what I honestly feel are our best songs. I know every band says that about their new stuff but you will hear for yourselves soon enough!”
